THE CABIN LOOP TRAIL SYSTEM
This hike follows the historic U-Bar, Barbershop, and Houston Brothers Trails. These trails are part of the Cabin Loop Trail System, which connects several historic cabins in the Mogollon Rim country. Pinchot Cabin is named for Gifford Pinchot, the first chief of the USDA Forest Service. It was used for many years as a fire guard station. The trail system provided the main transportation routes through this remote country during the early days of ranching and forestry. Most of the trails have been lost during the development of the forest road system, but several, including these three trails, have been relocated and restored. Portions of the trail are faint but are well marked by tree blazes.
